The 34 Year Old utility man has a wealth of Football League and Top Flight Non-League experience having represented Bristol Rovers, Torquay United, Reading, Swindon Town, Swansea City, & Havant & Waterlooville. Gurney spent a short spell as a player at Weston after leaving Clevedon Town between February and May of 2007 before going on to join Havant & Waterlooville. He rejoined The Seagulls in December 2007 on leaving Havant before going on to join Newport County in February of 2008. Gurney lifted the F. A. W. Premier Cup with County before last week finding out that he was one of 5 player's to be released by new Newport Boss Dean Holdsworth. It is hoped that Gurney will also have a prominent role to play on the park.

Appointed Manager in the summer of 2007. Enjoyed much success as a player with Yeovil Town (for whom he played 150 games) and latterly for Bath City, for whom he made 750 appearances. Went on to manage The Romans, with whom he enjoyed considerable success, including good cup runs during his 4 ½ rein at the club. An outstanding coach, motivator and tactician. Has worked at the Bristol Rovers School of Excellence where again he has enjoyed a quality tenure with both the Youth and also the Women’s side with whom he achieved unprecedented success over the past four years.
