Weston made the long trip to Essex on Tuesday evening and despite putting in a far more gutsy performance than they did on Saturday, still came away pointless after this latest heavy defeat,

Weston included new loan signing Ian Herring in the starting line-up. Herring, a tough midfielder was signed from Salisbury just before the deadline on Monday evening, but Elvis Ewruje found himself relegated to the subs bench along with teenager Mark Armstrong. Striker Gareth Hopkins missed the game due to work commitments and Marc McGregor, injured on Saturday did not make the trip.

Weston started brightly enough and a Dean Grubb free kick was only cleared at the second attempt. They fell behind on 15 minutes when good work down the right by Chris Sullivan allowed him to put in a cross which was headed in via the post by Andy Porter.

Weston's response was a Mike Green shot from 18 yards which keeper Nicky Morgan gathered at full stretch.

Richard Jolly then rounded skipper Andy Robertson and freed up James Hawes but he wasted the effort by shooting over. Weston fell two behind on 34 minutes when Curtis Ujah, felled by an elbow from Jolly, lay prostrate on the ground, Referee Ian Crouch allowed play to continue and Ryan Moran, picking up the loose ball fired past Ryan Northmore.

Things got worse for the Seagulls five minutes later when Jolly rounded Ujah, cut into the area and fired under Northmore. Weston battled in vain and on the stroke of half time a free kick from Lewis Powell just drifted wide of the post.

Weston attacked from the restart and were unlucky when Wilfried Domoraud burst through only to see his shot deflected for a corner, then Mickey Bell swerved a shot a couple of feet wide.

The final goal of the game came on the hour mark when Weston were adjudged offside down the right. From the quickly taken free kick the ball was swung over right into the path of Lee Burns and he smashed the ball past Northmore to complete the scoring.

The home side then took their foot of the gas and Weston came more into the game, Ewruje, on for Bell set up Powell but his effort was blocked, Domoraud then forced keeper Morgan to half clear a fierce shot, Powell following up, saw his effort saved by the keeper, and at the death a free kick from Ewruje sailed inches wide.
