Seagulls beaten in the Setanta Shield

Weston were beaten (after extra time) by Bath City last night in the Setanta Shield first round. Marc McGregor scored both goals for Weston; the second of which came in the 98th minute. Bath City scored their winner through Darren Edwards, who netted his winner after 15 minutes of extra time.

Manager Tony Ricketts, speaking to the website this morning said:

�We didn�t deserve to get beaten. We gave away two poor defensive goals; they scored from a free kick and we didn�t pick up the defensive phase. How the referee managed awarded the penalty for their second goal I will never know, it was the harshest penalty decision I have seen in a long time. Their winner was scored by their player inside the six yard box with none of our players anywhere near, so I was disappointed with that�

�Overall though we played a lot better than we did in the FA Cup on Sunday and it was a much improved performance by the lads; players on the fringe of the first team came in and did very well. Craig Loxton came in and played really really well for me, and Simon Heal, slotting in at left back also did well�

�Andy Robertson deserves special praise � he has done really well for us this season, he is an unsung hero of the team, who isn�t afraid to get stuck in and did the �dirty side� of the game exceptionally well�.
