WESTON'S solid start to the season contined with a hard-fought win at last season's FA Cup heroes. At one stage they led 3-0 but conceded two goals in the final 20 minutes.

Speaking after the game, Seagulls' manager Tony Ricketts commented: 'Of course I am delighted with the win, but we mustn't get carried away. Look what happened last season after we made a good start and we must keep on working hard to avoid that happening again.'

From the side successful against Bishop's Stortford, Weston included new signing from Swindon Supermarine, Cedric Abraham who was a tower in defence until substituted just after Havant scored their first goal, Michael Green also in defence, while Ryan Havard, after a good substitute appearance last time, was given a start, forming a two-pronged attack with Marvin Brown, and Ben Willshire, James Palmer and Marc McGregor were on the bench.

Havant pressed from the start, forcing two corners in the first five minutes and with Ryan Northmore forced to make a brilliant save from Sam Gargan and from the rebound Charlie Comyn-Platt having to clear off the line from Rocky Baptiste.

From Dean Grubb's cross from the right, Comyn-Platt forced Weston's first corner on 10 minutes and Ben Well's kick was knocked wide for Comyn-Platt to fired back across goal for Havard to score from a couple of yards.

Havant kept up pressure, forcing four more corners, but they failed to get a worthwhile effort on target. Their best chance came on 43 minutes when Northmore made a point-blank save, tipping Matt Gray's fierce header over his bar. Just before the break, at the other end, Scriven made a point-blank save from Brown from Ashan Holgate's cross.

Weston struck again on 59 minutes when Grubb's lofted cross was controlled by Holgate who crossed low into the six-yard box for Darren Mullins to beat home keeper Kevin Scriven from six yards. Two minutes later Havard was fouled just outside the home penalty area and Andy Gurney obliged once more, beating the defensive wall and Scriven. A minute later, Scriven made a flying save to deny Brown's strong distance effort.

Havant's pressure paid off on 70 minutes when Charlie Henry beat Northmore after good work by Baptiste, and they struck again on 85 minutes when Gary Holloway scored from another Baptiste cross, making for a tense last five minutes.

Despite two appeals for a penalty, Weston hung on for a dramatic win, but had substitute James Palmer, who had come on for Gurney, dismissed for a second bookable offence.
