Weston 2 v 2 Maidenhead

AFTER taking a comfortable half-time lead against their Berkshire opponents, Weston paid the penalty of allowing their visitors to dominate the second half and come away with a valuable point that moves them up to third in the Blue Square South table, while Weston slip one place to eighth.

Fielding the same side that was successful at Dorchester, Weston conceded a corner in the first minute when Ryan Northmore was forced to turn Richard Pacquette's effort round his post, but at the other end on three minutes, Weston forced their first corner on the left.

Mark McKeever's flag kick was cleared only as far as Ben Wells who crossed to the far post where Darren Mullings outjumped the defence and knock down the ball for Marvin Brown to beat keeper Shane Gore from six yards.

As previously unbeaten Maidenhead tried to get back into the game, Northmore did well to cut out Pacquette's low cross as Mustafa Tyriaki closed in and at the other end, Brown set up Mullings for a shot that was blocked by a defender.

Marc McGregor was just over with a free kick on 20 minutes and nine minutes later, Tyriaki had an effort cleared off the Weston goal-line by skipper Charlie Comyn-Platt.

Weston doubled their advantage on 35 minutes when McGregor freed Dean Grubb for a run at the Maidenhead defence, but he was brought down by visiting skipper Ashley Nicholls and Brown sent Gore the wrong way from the penalty spot.

As Maidenhead took control in the second half, Dominic Sterling had a strong header comfortably taken by Northmore on 50 minutes, but four minutes later the visitors were back in the game when good work on the left by Narada Bernard and the speedy Dale Binns set up Ben Surey to beat Northmore with a superb 25-yard effort.

With their tails up, Maidenhead piled on pressure with Tyriaki forcing a good save with a shot on the turn and Northmore did well to dispossess Binns when he outpaced the home defence on a run, then Binns was just over with another effort and Tyriaki headed agains a post with Northmore stranded.

Weston's best chance of the half came on 83 minutes when substitutes Ashan Holgate and Andy Gurney just failed to connect with Ben Willshire's long free kick.

Three minutes from time, Maidenhead got their equaliser when Nicholls set up Pacquette to head past Northmore when Weston failed to clear a corner.Att 212
