Weston 1 v 2 Hayes & Yeading

Weston's depleted squad looked to have done enough to deny their play-off chasing opponents another victory but they were undone within a two-minute spell at the start of the second half and were unable to break down the stubborn resistance put up by Hayes & Yeading once they had taken the lead. Weston went into the game minus, Mike Green, Manny Williams, Craig Rand, Ashan Holgate, Marc McGregor, Mark McKeever, Darren Mullins and Jack Compton But had two new signings, Tom Evans and Matt groves in their ranks.

Weston should have opened the scoring on 8 minutes when Dayle Grubb fed Scott Partridge, his pull back found Marvin Brown in space but his shot on the turn just fell the wrong side of the post.

Weston were then dealt another injury blow when Grubb had to leave the field after a heavy tackle on 14 minutes. New signing Matt Groves then missed another chance for the home side when he shot wide after the visitors had failed to clear their lines.

Hayes and Yeading then had two chances of their own to open the scoring but Scott Fitzgerald, unmarked in the area, planted a weak header straight at Ryan Northmore in the home goal, Northmore then made the save of the game when he flew to his left to push away a fierce 20 yard drive from Will Hendry.

The home side broke the deadlock on 29 minutes after a free kick awarded out on the left, was flicked on by Charlie Comyn-Platt, the ball fell to debutant Tom Evans and he hooked a right foot volley into the top corner..

Weston then suffered another injury blow when Tomasso Parrinello did not appear for the second half, after taking a knock towards the end of the first half. Weston's makeshift defence then conceded two goals in quick succession to allow the visitors to maintain their play-off position. The first was an error by Northmore who completely misjudged a cross cum shot from Stafforde Palmer and the ball curled over his head and into the far corner. Two minutes later it got worse for the home side when a goalmouth scramble ended with referee Lee Swabey pointing to the spot, much to the surprise of all the players. Hendry stepped up to take the spot kick but Northmore guessed right by diving to his left to push the ball away, unfortunately the ball fell to Palmer who slotted it home through a ruck of players. The visitors almost grabbed a third but this time Northmore was alert and pushed the inswinging corner over the bar. Weston had one chance to equalise in the 87 minute but Adrian Harris' free kick was inches over the bar.
