Weston dispelled any lingering thoughts of relegation with this first ever victory at St. Georges Lane on Saturday. Playing against probably the worst Worcester side that i can ever remember the Seagulls controlled the game from start to finish and came home delighted with the three points.

Weston began the game by leaving the ineffective Marvin Brown on the bench with Marc McGregor and the impressive Scott Partridge up front and it was the latter who had the first chance of the game but he unfortunately couldn't control a looped up effort from Ben Wells, and then he just failed to get on the end of a low cross from Jack Compton who had been freed into space by McGregor.

Wells then tried a shot from 25 yards which flew just wide and Worcester; s first effort came from Rob Davies but that flew over the bar.

Weston took the lead on 21 minutes from a rather fortunate free kick. Some 30 yards out Wells's kick deceived keeper Danny McDonnell, struck the right hand angle of post and crossbar and then flew across goal and nestled in the opposite bottom corner.

On the stroke of half time keeper Ryan Northmore came to the Seagulls rescue with a point blank save following a free kick.

Weston almost increased their lead just after the break when McGregor's persistence saw the full back desperately try to clear the ball which rolled along the goalline before being scrambled away. McGregor then wasted a chance by firing weekly wide after being put through by partridge.

Just after the hour mark the Seagulls went two-up when following a corner on the left the ball was cleared upfield but play was brought back by the Assistant's flag who had spotted a foul on Partridge in the area. Referee derek eaton, after consulting with the Assistant then pointed to the spot and McGregor stepped up to beat McDonnell and put the Seagulls firmly in the driving seat.

As has happened on several occasions this year Weston were then caught napping and allowed Matt Dinsmore time and space to beat Northmore with a low shot from 8 yards out.

The home side then threw everything at Weston in an attempt to draw level and in their desperate attempts to equalise Dave Brampton was booked twice in the space of a couple of minutes and left the home side with 10 men.

Weston held out and can now look forward to planning for life in the BLue Square South again next season.
