Another dismal display by the Seagulls saw them crash to their fourth straight defeat on Tuesday evening in a game controlled by a slick passing, smooth moving home side who chalked up their 10th consecutive victory with consummate ease. The fact that Weston only managed one shot on target all night sums up their now consistent end of season collapse.

Still needing 5 points to be absolutely sure of avoiding the drop this is one person who cannot see them obtaining one, never mind five from now on in. I am aware that Thurrock need to win all of their games to pip us, but on the showing of the last 2 games Weston simply have not turned up.

Unable to deal with the home sides quick breakaways, the absence of any sense of capability along the Weston back line was evident for all to see, and although Tom Evans, replacing Craig Rand, turned in a competent performance, the rest of the team once again showed their weaknesses.

For the first part of the game Weston stifled the home side by bringing ten men behind the ball but once again they were undone by 2 goals in as many minutes as the home side began to take control. The first goal on 39 minutes followed the substitution of Ben Willshire, Jack Compton making a welcome return from injury, taking his place. Immediately the home side went on the attack and a quick through ball, which completely dissected the two central defenders, was latched on to by the speedy Josh Scott, he drew Northmore before calmly slipping the ball under his body and into the empty net.

Within a minute the Seagulls were 2 down when after failing to deal with a corner Ram Marwa's shot struck the post and rebounded to Staforde Palmer, and just as he had done at the Woodspring a week earlier, he smashed the ball home.

Weston began the second half by taking off Matt groves and bringing on Ashan Holgate but within 5 minutes of the restart they found themselves 3 down. Northmore was at fault when he failed to hold on to a low cross and Scott gleefully rammed home the rebound.

Weston then had to concentrate on damage control and their task was not made any easier when skipper Adrian Harris was dismissed for his second yellow card for dissent. He stormed off the pitch and an altercation then took place in the tunnel between the frustrated skipper and a home steward.

Weston's only response was a shot from Marvin Brown that sailed over the bar.
