Weston Brought back down to Earth, with a bump

Weston slumped to their heaviest defeat of the season after this convincing win for the visitors at Woodspring Stadium. Outclassed by the slick movement of the Bishop's Stortford attack the overworked Weston defence were found wanting time and again and Man of the Match Greg Pearson proved to be a thorn in the side of Weston as he completed a well deserved hat trick before being substituted late on..

Weston had the first chance of the game when a neat move involving Marc McGregor, Craig Loxton and Barry McConnell ended when the latters dangerous cross into the box was headed behind for a corner.

From then it was all Stortford and after Craig Edwards head shot wide they took the lead on 13 minutes when Pearson broke clear and advanced into the box, he then neatly squared the ball across goal and Loui Fazakerley was left all alone to side foot the ball home from 4 yards.

The lead was doubled on 34 minutes when Jack Midson made a run down the left, his ball into the area was fumbled by Weston keeper Ryan Northmore and Pearson was on hand to poke the ball home.

The second half began with Weston forcing the pace and Gareth Hopkins was unlucky to see his left foot shot on the turn palmed away by keeper Andrew Young. The visitors also had chances to increase their lead with Pearson flicking the ball just over the bar and Midson shooting wide before Pearson again got in on the act, cleverly springing the offside trap on 70 minutes he outpaced the home defence and beat Northmore with a rising shot.

The scoring was completed on 80 minutes when substitute Roy Essandoh raced clear down the right and his cross found Pearson completely unmarked five yards out and once again he took the chance superbly by again beating Northmore with a shot high into the roof of the net.

Weston's only chances came from long range efforts mainly by substitutes Ryan Harley and Lewis Powell but it was too little too late the damage had already been done.
